Exploring Olympic National Park Step-by-Step…

Location: Olympic National Park

Days: 9

Mileage: 56

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Graves Creek campground & set up camp

Day 2: Eat at 7, back up by 7:30, and hike to O'Neil Creek campground. 6.7 mile hike. Walking directly alongside water source. A few campsites along the way to rest and sleep if need be. Very little elevation during this portion, walking through river valley.

Day 3: Repeat same as yesterday, moving from O'Neil Creek to Enchanted Valley campsite. 6.5 mile hike.

Day 4: Slight change of pace with increased elevation and mileage of 10.6. Could be one of most difficult days. Certainly water around, but fill up a lot at enchanted valley as no large water source marked until marmot lake. Intense day.

Day 5: Around 6 mile hike from marmot lake to home sweet home. Elevation is less intense, and many campsites along the way to rest.

Day 6: 5-6 mile hike along North Fork Skokomish river to Big Log campsite. Once again, other campsite options & steady water source.

Day 7: Time to rough it! Could be one of hardest days. Expect high elevation gains at start and primitive path, possibly bushwhacking. Optional, and likely needed, campsite halfway to Lake Sundown if full hike proves to difficult. Lake sundown is 10.6 miles from Big Log campsite.

Day 8: Return to original campsite, graves creek, from lake sundown. 7.5 mile hike. Trail will remain primitive and keep an eye on not getting lost.

Day 9: Have a slow morning at graves creek and drive back home.
